Conversion Story: The vehicle was born in the Lake District and started off as a works vehicle for a local tradesman. John Purcell is a carpenter renowned for his excellence in hand crafted furniture. He turned his passion for carpentry to his vehicle when he decided to convert his Crafter into a Camper Van. He used all locally sourced materials with the main kitchen and furniture being made from Ash from his neighbours' woodland. His aim with the camper van was to make it spacious and maximise every inch of space, which has been done to perfection.

From booking to completing this trip, it was pretty effortless throughout, thanks to the help of Ann-Catrine & Joe, Emma's owners, and Quirky Campers. From the helpful videos covering every facility in the van to the reqular updates from Quirky Campers, we were well-equipped. We stuck to the Lake District (S & NE mainly) and had a couple of nights up at Castlerigg Farm above Derwent Water/Keswick and a particularly memorable last night parked-up by Crummock Water, beneath Rannerdale Knotts. The van was well-equipped, with everything we could possibly need and more. We hope to have the opportunity to do this again in the not too distant future. It enabled us to get some great walks in around Castlerigg (Walla Crag/Lady's Rake & Stone Circle); Bassenthwaite (Dodd & the surrounding woodland); Crummock & Rannerdale, as well as a great but damp run over an extended Coledale Horseshoe from Braithwaite. Absolutely brilliant, thank you!

We had a truly fantastic time in Emma driving around the Lake District. The van was super clean and had everything we needed including a very secure bike rack with extra locks which was perfect for us. The owners were absolutely lovely and made sure we knew where we were going, how things worked and were flexible on drop off times too which we really appreciated! Once we were away it was very easy to operate and secure the electrics, gas, water etc. Highly recommend using Emma and will certainly be booking another holiday with quirky campers in the future.

This was our first time using Quirky Campers and our first campervan experience and I can safely say, it won't be our last! The range of campers available on Quirky Campers is amazing and when we found Emma the VW Crafter was available for a bank holiday wild camping adventure in the Lake District, we HAD to give it a go! Communication with Emma's owners was excellent throughout and they couldn't do enough to help make the experience smooth and enjoyable, from helping ahead of the booking with thorough, informative videos of the vans features and functions to being available during for those questions that pop up during your road trip. Emma was glorious with everything you need for an off-grid adventure. Having never driven a large vehicle before, I was pretty apprehensive but, once you get used to it it was fine (if not fun??!) I slept for 9.5 hours on one of the nights and found the bed really comfy. It did get chilly with no hook up but we had lots of layers and blankets and we're fine! Would highly recommend Emma, although maybe not to some of our taller friends - you can stand up in Emma but the bed is pretty compact (as stated in the description) so that's the only thing to consider if you're a bit taller!!

Amazing few days in Emma! The van had everything we could wish for and was warm and cosy at night. We cooked all our meals in her and had plenty of storage. Would definitely recommend both QC and Emma and hope to book again sometime soon ☺️

Quirky Campers facilitated our hiring of Emma, who lives in Kendal, professionally and with a smile. The van was everything we'd hoped for and then some, in terms of space and the experience as a whole. 10/10, would recommend!

Had a cracking time exploring the Lake District & Emma has been a treat! We are completely sold on van life. It's been so easy to drive & then set up camp that we moved campsite every night. Matthew was friendly and helpful so thank you for our introduction to Quirky Camper - we'll be back!!

We have had an awesome time taking Emma on our photography trip. Skye was an absolute delight, despite the hurricane like weather! Emma has been a dream to stay in (even in laybys at the roadside). Super cosy & felt like a true home from home! Emma.. we will be back!!

We spent a lovely week in Emma visiting the Lake District. She is super cosy and easy to drive, so much so that we have hired her again to visit Scotland next year! Mike, her owner was very friendly and helpful and got straight back to us if we needed his advise.
