About the Campervan

Description of Beds: Drover sleeps four – two in the spacious, sturdy Alucab pop-top roof tent (1250mm wide x 2300mm long), two children/one adult ‘downstairs’ on the table and bench-cum bed (920mm wide x 1880mm long). Proper mattress, duvet, bedding and towels provided.

Three belted seats in the front (including driver and one central ‘jump seat’) with headrests and two further belted seats in the second row.

About the area: Drover lives between Chipping Norton and Burford in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. Our nearest station is Charlbury – just over an hour from London Paddington. A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds and beyond. The Dreaming Spires of Oxford are about 20 minutes by car; the same distance in the other direction, the regency spa town of Cheltenham – and a little beyond that, Bath. Shakespeare’s Stratford is under an hour away, so is Warwick Castle. Slap bang in the centre of the country, you can comfortably get to most holiday hotspots within a couple of hours.

Parking: You are welcome to park your car on our driveway on a quiet residential street in a small country village. If you’d prefer, we offer collection from nearby Charlbury and Kingham stations, or Soho Farmhouse, for a small fee.

Cooking Equipment: Drover is kitted out without with everything you need for a comfortable stay. A two burner stove pulls out from a clever under floor drawer, while a second drawer stores all your cookware: Le Creuset whistling kettle | cafetière | enamel dinner which includes: mugs, dinner and side plates, and bowls | water and wine glasses |three pans (one for frying) | mixing/serving bowl; | cutlery and utensils | plus knives | chopping board. To make the most of campfire life, Drover has a fire pit, with barbecue set, camp table and four stools, plus torches (indoors, plenty of LED lighting). You can wash up at the sink or use the portable washing bowl. The generous cooler is perfect for chilling milk, sausages, snacks and beer!

Water Facilities: A 35 litre water tank holds plenty for cooking, washing up and washing (if you’re brave enough for the (unheated!) outdoor shower!) for a short stay and can be easily refilled at your site.

Type of Heating: With insulated black out blinds, Drover is toasty warm!

Conversion Story: As ‘lightweight’ campers, the Drover team fancied getting a campervan. Living in the Cotswolds we did not want an ordinary campervan, we wanted a defender camper conversion which is what we got!

In January 2021, during the first week of lockdown, we bought a Land Rover Defender Utility Wagon 110 (if you know your Landys!), working with the talented team at Bird Box House to design a beautiful boutique kitchen (with sink, stove and cooler but, sadly, no dishwasher!) and a clever table and bench-cum bed. For the grown-ups, sleeping is under the stars, in a luxury pop-top roof tent. And so, Drover Camping was born.

Team Drover has tried to combine the Defender’s adventurous spirit with a bijou bolthole. Something wild and free, but with access to a private loo. As we like to think of it, an adventure made easy.
