Great Langdale Campsite enjoys spectacular views of the distinctive Langdale Pikes, one of the most recognisable groups of peaks in the Lake District National Park. The valley is renowned for climbing and mountain trails, offering adventures for all abilities — from challenging fell-top expeditions and rocky scrambles to shorter, family-friendly walks. With numerous paths starting right from the campsite, it’s an ideal base for exploring the area over a few days or even a full week, whatever the season.
Take in stunning views of the Pikes on a circular walk to Blea Tarn, which takes around an hour and is perfect for a relaxed outing. For a steeper challenge, the hike to Stickle Tarn takes about an hour and a half, following Stickle Ghyll past waterfalls and pools carved into the mountainside. Nature lovers can also explore the tree trail at High Close Estate, where giant redwoods and fir trees line the route.
Cyclists can enjoy the moderate Langdale Valley cycle trail, which winds through meadows, woodland, and historic slate quarries. The route includes a stop in the nearby village of Elterwater for a café break before following the riverside path back up the valley. Electric bikes are also available to hire at Stickle Ghyll Car Park.
