Campervans for Sale 2005 Fiat Ducato Maxi 2.8JTD Stealth Camper
Fiat Ducato Maxi
For sale is our 2005 Fiat Ducato Maxi 2.8JTD stealth camper.
It’s up for sale as a van of this size is no longer needed and we’re looking to buy a smaller day van to use as an all-purpose vehicle. The van is simple to fix and robust with not a great deal to go wrong, it has been serviced every 4000 miles and has had any issues addressed whenever flagged – most recently it has had new rear spring bushes, a light engine overhaul and full service.
I originally advertised the van for sale in March but took the listing down after noticing a small whine from the turbocharger with some smoke. This has now been replaced with a brand new turbo and the van is ready to go in good health!
The van weighs in at about 2.3t with full tanks (3.5t max gross) and does around 28mpg with city driving, on a run out this rises to low-mid 30’s so quite frugal for a large diesel van.
Bodywork wise the paintwork is tired and unflattering (I’m fairly sure a previous owner has touched it up with emulsion paint) but every bit of rust has been addressed and welded up regardless of expense. In the past year the lower sections of the sill were beginning to become patchy so every area with signs of corrosion were cut out and replaced.
The passenger side door keyhole does not turn, but works on the central locking and the inside of the van. The sliding door can be intermittent.
The van is a self-build with plenty of usable space and storage. It comes equipped with a gas oven and hobs, a sink with an electric pump tap, USB power outlets, a fridge, individually wired rows of lighting, a good solar power system, a reverse camera, two skylights (one with a fan) and a diesel heater.
The furniture is solid and built using robust timber with attention paid to storage space. There are draws and cupboards in the space beneath the bed, above the cab, below the counters and shelves lining the top sections of the walls. It’s very well insulated and the bed slides out and extends into a very large sleeping area and can be put back into position through the day.
Worth noting – it’s very stealthy. The van is totally light proof – no gaps or anything to betray your position. This means you can camp pretty much anywhere without getting any bother – it’s quite possible to park up on any residential street or parking area with no signs you’re inside if needed.
The van has intermittently been lived in for long stretches of time and every aspect of the van has shown to be robust and comfortable. The battery and solar system have no issues running the fridge round the clock alongside the heater with USBs being used for charging etc. The heater puts out a lot of warmth and has never been run below 3 (out of 6) to avoid coking up. It uses around £20 of diesel every 3 weeks during winter being used full time.
