Mercedes Sprinter 316cdi LWB
Smooth powerful 5 cylinder 2.7 litre cdi engine. With a relatively light conversion, the vehicle outperforms most campers on long motorway inclines.
One owner converter from new. Runs perfectly. Garaged for past 10 years. No collisions.
Regularly serviced. Recent major service and full MOT. High quality welding and re-undersealing to chassis ahead of MOT. Receipt for almost £1,800.
Would benefit from further cosmetic work to wheel arches, to one obvious rust spot and few less obvious imperfections on paintwork.
UK specification right hand drive vehicle ordered and purchased new by me from dealer in Germany in January 2003, when it was possible to buy them much cheaper than in UK. Immediately imported to UK. Registered in UK in April 2003, on production of British National Type Approval Certificate. This certificate and other confirmatory paperwork will be supplied with the vehicle.
I specified a sliding door on the right hand hand side to suit my conversion. There is no sliding door on the left side of the vehicle.
A locking differential was also specified. Sadly, the electro-hydraulic control mechanism proved unreliable and is no longer working. It would work (for a while) with new parts for the control mechanism, or it might be possible to convert it to external manual operation with rods or cables.
One double, one single and two shorter children’s bunk beds.
Full length double bed, narrows slightly towards foot end. Wife & I are both about 5′ 9″ (1.75m) and not grossly overweight. We find it a very comfortable bed.
Exact dimensions: Head end 1220mm (4′ 0″) wide x 700 (2′ 3 1/2″) long. Mid section 1110mm (3′ 7 1/2″) wide x 820mm (2′ 8 1/2″) long. Foot end 1020mm (3′ 6″) wide x 440mm (1′ 5 1/2″) long. Overall length 1950mm (6′ 5″)
Single and children’s bunk beds all 600mm (2′ 0″) wide.
Single 1905mm (6′ 3″) long. Lower bunk 1740mm (5′ 8 1/2″). Upper bunk 1635mm (5′ 4 1/2″)
Converted to suit family of 5 staying on small camp sites and sometimes off site.
6 seat belted forward facing seats. Seat belt fittings on conversion made very strong to protect my own family.
Cab seats turn to face backwards around large table, which can also be used outside of the vehicle.
Plenty of storage for food. 90 litre Dometic RM7361 gas/12v/230v fridge.
Rear of van benefits from Seitz Mini Heki opening roof light and second one in shower compartment.
Long worktop for food prep. Twin burner Spinflo hob with grill. Small sink and drainer.
Two 60 litre water tanks below floor.
Under-floor refillable gas tank – LPG capacity about 22 litres.
Truma E2400 thermostatically controlled gas heater. Truma B14 (14 litre) gas hot water boiler.
No leisure battery fitted. Battery copes with 3 – 4 night stays, even with extensive use of heater, lights and water pump. Never had a flat battery on tour.
Sale includes complete set of internal Taylor-Made window screens and external insulated cover for cab windscreen and cab windows by same manufacturer.
Due to increasing demands of my day job some aspects of the conversion were not completed once the vehicle became fully functional:
Shower compartment is structurally sound, but requires completion of panel on side of van, sealing, fitting of drain and fitting and plumbing shower mixer. Could be easily plumbed into existing hoses and completed by a handy person. Alternatively, the space can be used to store luggage, sports equipment etc.
The drawers for chest under single bed were not made. We put bags in this area, but a good woodworker could easily make drawers to fit.
Rear doors and wall above sliding door and equivalent on left side were intended to have speakers fitted. These areas would look better if panelled.
An unfitted Omnistor 2.6m x 2m awning stored since 2004 may be available to purchase with the vehicle.
Obviously, the sale price does not include crockery, cutlery and bedding shown in the photos!
