Conversion Description

Fable lwb Renault Master

We based her on Coorie, our own camper. After 30 vans we believe we have come up with the perfect layout.
We have created a series of spaces which present almost like separate ‘rooms’. In this way there is a kitchen, a couple of seats to sit, nursing your cuppa while you happily stare at the beautiful copper stove, and separate sitting room at the top which is also a bedroom. There is a small step up into the sitting area at the back. This is portable so can be used to sit outside if the weather is warm….it has been cleverly remodelled from a dining room chair! The step leads up to her ‘almost’ fixed bed…almost in that it takes literally one minute to put together. The fixed/not fixed bed dilemma is the main thing most people consider when buying a van, and we remain firmly in the ‘not fixed’ camp. We cherish the space available for hanging out and chilling during the day, and feel that the tiny amount of time required to make up a bed is available to most people on holiday…and actually it’s quite fun transforming your space each day! The main problem is not building the bed, but storing the bedding in an easily accessible place? So Fable has a couple of storage hatches right in the bed area, which extend a little way under the bed to make bedding storage a breeze. If you are a fixed bed kind of person, don’t worry…there is so much seating space that part of the bed could stay up during the day if that’s what you want to do, without spoiling the versatility of the rest of the van. Whatever you decide to do, you will rest easy on her Ikea memory foam mattress, which also makes 2 incredibly comfy sofas. The main bed is 6ft 2 inches running lengthways, it is made up with 2 bolster cushions which slot in to make it into a super king size. A simple pull out section makes this really easy and quick.
We enjoyed our first adventure in our van, Coorie earlier this year and found her a joy to camp in. The layout means someone can languish in bed with copious cups of tea (hopefully me haha!) while the other person can sit in the kitchen area looking at maps and planning the day’s trip. As the evening draws on, the back doors can be opened onto the view, and you can enjoy the outside from the comfort of the incredible comfy couches.
As her name suggests, Fable is a celebration of story…..her fabrics and decor have been carefully chosen to reflect the cosy jumble of a gingerbread cottage. The seats are a cheery warm red, with rich velvet seat backs to mirror the copper of the stove. The curtains in here are patchwork, with a make do and mend vibe. The rustic wood of the blinds whisper to us of bedtime….
We have built a little viaduct to add to the fun…I don’t think I need to tell you which story that comes from!
The decorative, ceramic kitchen sink has been chosen to make washing up fun! There is also a little fold out table to wash up onto. A fridge sits below which runs off the 2 solar panels mounted on the roof.
The kitchen is built from reclaimed whisky barrel oak, with 3 large drawers for storage and a top cupboard for food.
She has a 2 ringed gas hob for cooking, but much more exciting than this is her little copper diesel heater which has an aga type hot plate. Although the copper stove looks like a woodburner, it actually runs on diesel and is very economical….these little stoves are absolutely brilliant, and virtually indestructible. They are totally silent, and you can cook on them….I have a friend who does 90% of his cooking on his. It opens up a whole new field of possibilities…we have one in Coorie and it is great for crumpets or to slowly simmer a pot of soup while you go for a wander. If you search for refleks stove recipes you will find people make pizza, bread and other delights on these innovative little stoves…and the best thing about them is they are completely silent, so you can be really cosy and warm, watching nature through the windows without the usual whirr of a diesel or gas heater.
Safe travel for 3 people. The middle seat folds forward, giving access for agile people to climb into the cab.
There are bed lights, kitchen lights, a welcome light and of course twinkly fairy lights! She also has 4 usb chargers.
She has a vast boot, with loads of storage space.
So…on to the technical stuff!
Here at Rustic Simplicity we believe in keeping things simple, to capture the true spirit of camping, so although she has everything you need, we do not go over the top with technical stuff that can potentially go wrong. Fable has all of the features you need for an off grid camping experience. 200w of solar power are more than enough to keep the fridge and lights going. There is also a split charge system which tops up the battery as you travel. She has running water (cold only), and you can shower at the side door. If you want a warm shower, simply top up the water bottle with a kettle of hot water. There is a compressor fridge with a freezer compartment.
A toilet hides under a box seat, you wouldn’t know it was there!
The lovely copper stove heater keeps you cosy on chilly evenings.
The sitting room has 2 opening windows which have built in mosquito nets.
She has a simple debus sun canopy, which feeds onto her awning track at the side door.
She is fully insulated using Greg Virgo’s methods.
Fable is full of character, and ready for your next adventure.
As we were putting the finishing touches in we began to want to spend more time with her…..it was as if she was drawing us in, and we all knew our time together would be short. She is a special van, named for the stories she tells through all of her quirky little touches.
Oh ….the other important stuff….she had one owner before we bought her to convert, a full service history and she runs great. We have all the paperwork for the services carried out during her lifetime. MOT’d until 25th October and she had a full service at the beginning of February when we bought her. We have hardly driven her since then.
That’s about it! If you think Fable is the camper for you, please get in touch. We can then arrange viewing and a deposit would secure. Please don’t ask us to hold on to this van until you ‘get chance’ to get up here…the demand will be high and we need to be fair to everyone, we do understand, however, that we are a wee bit off the beaten track, so will try to come and go with you if we can. The price is fixed, and reflects the incredible amount of work that has gone into creating her….We have built 30 campers to date…some have been commissioned, but of all of the ones we’ve put up for sale, without exception, the first person to view has bought. We love what we do, and had a brilliant time over at Camp Quirky a couple of weeks ago, where 7 of our vans were on show…you might like to have a look over on our facebook page, on the comments to see some quite useful reviews of our work! We are really looking forward to meeting Fable’s new owner!

Super king size bed, formed in 2 minutes by pulling out a slatted section from centre of back seat and putting 2 bolster cushions in place. This bed could be left up if desired as there are 2 other seats. This would be a pity tho as you have a super comfy seating area up here!
