Vehicle Description

We’re reluctantly saying goodbye to our beloved Elton, a 2001 Volkswagen LT35 LWB campervan that’s taken us through winter and summer adventures alike. Elton has just passed an MOT (April 2025) with no advisories, received a full service, and had four brand-new tyres fitted. He’s road-ready and reliable. Elton is a 2001 Volkswagen LT35 LWB campervan with a 2.5TDi 5-cylinder diesel engine. We’ve owned Elton since 2023 and are reluctantly selling as we’re focusing more on international travel and no longer have space to keep him.

Elton is a beast and we love living in him. He isn’t just an ordinary van – when we travel around in him we feel like we are living in a luxurious tiny house with all the comforts. He can run our very power-intensive coffee machine, microwave, hair dryers with ease due to the 2000w victron inverter. There’s a very comfortable bed that fits two people below 6ft with ease. Due to the high ceiling you can also stand straight in the van if you’re under 6ft. The electrics of this van are so good we pretty much are always running at 90%-100% due to the 3x solar panels and DC-DC charger while driving.

The van was professionally self-built by a previous owner with experience in 4×4 expedition vehicles in 2019. It’s designed for full-time, all-season living, with excellent insulation (25-50mm and vapour barrier) and thoughtful detailing like oak finishes. We have lived comfortably in Elton during both winter and summer. The cab is separated from the living space with insulated cab doors, keeping the living area cool in summer and warm in winter with the help of the diesel heater (the diesel heater was serviced by us in May 2025 and runs well, keeping the van cosy). The Maxxfan and multiple small fans maintain airflow.

Elton has around 188,000 miles and has just had a full service, MOT with no advisories, and 4 brand-new tyres (April 2025). These engines are known for reliability and it runs very well. The van achieves close to 30mpg on long drives when loaded.

Known areas of wear: there’s some inevitable rust (largely treated by the previous owner), a minor water leak from the Maxxfan when parked level during heavy rain, and a small leak into the cab area believed to be from the aerial. The windscreen washer fluid system also has a leak, so will need attention. Two of the spot lights need replacing as they’re only providing 50% light at the moment. The reasons we haven’t fixed these is that we genuinely have not had time.
