Gimli is a wheelchair-adapted vehicle with lowered floor; as a stealth camper this results in increased headroom. It does mean that the fuel tank is smaller, but we usually get about 220mile per tank and this has never been an issue.
It’s squat, it’s red, it’s Gimli the microcamper!
We have had an absolute blast in this van- from overnighters and weekends to the full month of July 2024- but sadly it is time to pass the joy along as we embark on a new adventure in Australia. We are Gimli’s second owners since conversion and have made various upgrades and improvements of our own. This wee van is stealthy and perfect for a solo traveller or for a close couple.
Interior fully insulated with vinyl flooring.
Perforated one-way window film on back windows for privacy.
Built-in kitchen space with tap, sink, bench, spice rack, coolbox.
Futon-style bed converts from sofa to a double bed.
Plenty of storage.
Electrics:
12v supplied via leisure battery (under driver’s seat) with split charge relay. Has battery isolator/cut-off switch and voltage-sensitive relay.
1000W power inverter, DC to AC, 12V to 240V pure sine wave inverter with LED display. AC output socket and USB charging port.
LED switch panel with 5 switches, 2 USB charger sockets, a digital voltmeter, and a 12v (cigarette lighter) power socket. The 5 switches control the 12v LED recessed spot lights, LED copper wire fairy lights, coolbox and water pump/tap.
Fuse box with LED lights and appropriate amp fuses.
Electric hook-up lead available for campsites to power the coolbox rather than draining the leisure battery.
Coolbox located behind passenger seat.
Storage:
Main storage is found under the seating area. There is room to fit 3 IKEA DRÖNA (or copy) boxes, as well as space for camping chairs and sleeping bags.
Under the kitchen counter there is space to store smaller items like cutlery, crockery, cooking equipment and a portable gas stove. These items are included.
Under the sink there are 2x 5L bottles. One is for fresh water which has a submersible pump and is connected to the tap, the other is for wastewater which collects from the sink via a waste pipe.
Overhead compartment handy for easy access items.
Roof box was removed for some photos but is included in the sale. Perfect for storage of larger items, or for longer trips
We usually use the cushion covers to store sleeping bags, pillows and bulky jackets/ jumpers.
More photos available on request.
Memory foam mattress with removable cover 190cm x 125cm x 15cm
