Daihatsu Extol
I am reluctantly selling my lovely ‘Suzanne the Zoo Van’.
As you can see she is certainly quirky! She was owned from new by a zoo and lived there for nearly 20 years! While she was owned by them she has a full service history that I have a record of. I have now had her since early 2024 and have started doing a few bits to convert her to a camper. As you can see I haven’t got very far so she’s quite a blank canvas! With a little research you can see what clever things people do with these tiny little campers! So far we’ve stripped her back treated any rust and welded a couple of areas. I’d rather be honest about that as I’m sure you can imagine having lived at a zoo for 20 years she was full of mud and straw! There was no way there wasn’t going to be a few problem areas but she is now solid! Ive insulated the back and refitted the platform. This platform evens out the back so there’s no wheel arches to contend with, it also creates a handy little storage area! This can be easily removed if you have other plans, I’ve seen people take this out and plan the layout around the uneven floor. That’s about as far as I got, then before going to Glastonbury last year felt she definitely needed to be a bit funkier and stuck the retro curtains up over the insulation. Ive tried to demonstrate in the pictures that there is a few areas where this is coming away. But it’s very striking and makes it feel so cozy inside. I’ll also include the window coverings, one isnt quite finished as I ran out of binding. I also meant to attach some suction cups but have got by absolutely fine just pushing them up to the window. I’ve been camping in her like this very comfortably with some caravan cushions in the back, certainly quieter and cooler than a tent. But she has so much potential. I love the decals so have left most of them on but dod remove the phone number and email address, it came off very easily with a heat gun. You can see where they were but this could be t-cut. I haven’t had any issues with campsites ‘sign writing’ rules.
Because of her little petrol engine she is low emissions zone compliant and pretty efficient, and because of her tiny size she can go/be parked anywhere!
She has also had a new battery, new water pump, front brake pads and had a coat of lanoguard underneath in Winter. She has just passed her MOT at the beginning of July with the following advisories:
Suspension arm dust cover deteriorated
And the 4 tyres passed but were advisory.
Please feel free to contact with any questions, happy to take a call but may be more responsive ro texts if I’m at work. She’s located at my parents house as my dad was helping me with the work. I can organise with them if anyone would like to visit.
