The benefit of this van being identical to our hire van, Rae of Sunshine, is that we have seen first-hand how she has fared after over 100 nights of bookings and use. We are particularly pleased with the durability of the paint, insulation and the efficiency of the electrics and ventilation. We haven’t had to make any changes to Rae of Sunshine’s conversion so far by a fresh lick of paint, so feel confident that this is a van that will stand the test of many adventures.

Inside the Van:

Quality and durability is hugely important to us. We don’t use pre-made melamine cabinetry, it is all handmade from scratch and paired with solid walnut in the worktop, table and windowsills. The kitchen also benefits from fire-proof ceramic Ca Pietra tiles, a ceramic baby Belfast sink, 2-burner gas hob and a Domestic Tropicool Coolbox-style fridge, alongside a 25L fresh water tank (fed by a whale pump) and 10L waste tank easily accessed under the sink. The van has been intuitively designed with rental adventures in mind. There is enough storage space, and shelves to accommodate the needs of any hirer (indeed this has been proved in our identical hire van, Rae of Sunshine). Neptune Mustard paint, matt black detailing and cosy reading lights add to the feeling that this is a home, not a van.

With practicality in mind, we’ve incorporated as much storage as possible, added a height adjustable, moveable (or removable!) Lagun-style table leg to create a flexible space and in true glamping style have managed to work in in a kingsize bed so comfort isn’t compromised. The bed is made up of 9.5cm foam cushions that form the sofas by day and convert to the bed in 5 minutes in the evening. The van is also equipped with a Thetford Porta Potti, Victron Solar Energy Bluetooth Smart system, 12v and 240v power, 110ah leisure battery charged via a split charge system, battery monitor, an inverter, mains hookup and mains and USB sockets.

Having converted 7 vans now, our understand of ventilation and insulation systems is significantly more informed. Insulated with recycled wool, celotex boards and closed cell foam, the van stays cool on warm days and keeps the heat in at night. Upper and lower ventilation also prevents moisture from forming, as does the dry heat of the woodburner.
