1.-Sociable space with a down the side shaped living space utilising the Vangear Compact-bed with an extra extension forming a double bed. Opposite we have fitted the low level kitchen Maxi-pod and table. With the VW Caddy it is important to keep the bed as low as possible so there is head room while sitting.

3.- Cooking options with the internal Maxi-Pod kitchenette, for when it rains and outdoors with the Maxi-Pods sliding drawer system for when the sun is out.

Vangear is a long established campervan company. We are a manufacturer of campervan pods and retail online. Our camper pods use unique and original designs and therefore the Vangear campervan conversion necessitated thinking outside the box too. In a move away from the traditional down the side of the van furniture used for years in campervans, but taking some inspiration from the original Volkswagen California Beach we have thought long and hard about which set up we would use. As touched on above, we will try to use the next few pages to explain the Vangear “Freerunner” concept in base points.
Space concept #1 Space & Air
I have found that older set ups can be claustrophobic. By going for a low level bed combined with a pull out bed section to form a wider bed but still with room to get your legs out of bed and onto the floor and also addressing the important headroom issue when the bed is in seating bench mode, i.e keep the bench as low as possible, I am 6′ 2″ but I fit into the Caddy-“Freerunner”
A light and airy feeling is created by fitted windows letting you keep in touch with a landscape view.
Space Concept #2 Sociable Space & easy set up
By combining a north/south bed and a side mounted kitchen we have created a practical space for a living area. When the weather is bad, even in a small camper there has to be a useful set up. With the low bench and cushions for seating there is a cosy area and also at night time there’s a simple to make up bed. Again the easy operation of the bed and seat make transforming your campervan into night time mode simple and fast. This set up also allows room for sporting equipment i.e bikes, skis or boards.
Space Concept #3 Storage
An important aspect is storage, you need room to put stuff! We have spent time with our design to maximize available storage areas. Our concept is to keep the the modules small and leave space under the bed for storage, there is room for bedding and for your kit bag. There are also unwin rails along the side of the vehicle for hanging bags
Working with the available space there needs to be a feeling of space, which we feel has been achieved.
Vangear Space concept #4 Cooking
We all love food and part of the camping experience is food. With the “Freerunner” set up we have taken experiences from many camping trips to realise that campervan cooking is both an indoor and outdoor thing. Coming from England, where it often rains and if the wind is up, I want to cook in my van. For this the Caddy-Pod has your back, there is a stove and a sink for cooking indoors.
On a sunny evening who wouldn’t want to cook outdoors? The Vangear Maxi-Pod helps you here with a rear sliding drawer, pop the kitchen outside and away you go.
Vangear Space concept #5
For such a conversion we picked the Volkswagen Caddy, we wanted a platform that you can be proud of. The Caddy is a durable and low depreciation platform that in our view offers significant benefits over the competition. Anyone who has a feeling for high standards of longevity will immediately recognise the legacy Volkswagen Caddy as the best, most logical and practical choice for your next small campervan to explore planet Earth.
The design concept of the Vangear conversion is as a versatile crossover campervan, with the practically of a van for everyday work and life with the added benefit of a campervan for trips and holidays. This is a quality vehicle you can be proud of. It has the built in Volkswagen safety and tech features car like to drive with practical dimensions. The vangear conversion designed for comfort and lounging space. The twin side doors are great for access, there are front door vents for night time and twin LED lights and 12v sockets work off a leisure battery. The campervan/multi-purpose vehicle concept uses individual removable modules, there is a Bed module with a rear drawer with a kitchen pod and 12v cooler and a kitchen for when the weather is bad.
