Volkswagen Transporter T5 LWB Tailgate
For sale is our beloved Volkswagen Transporter T5 LWB which we converted into a cosy off-grid campervan. She has been a real joy to us and has taken us on some great surfing trips around the country as well as a long road trip to France, Spain and Portugal just last year. She has never missed a beat and is a real pleasure to drive, especially on long journeys.
The van is 54 reg (registered Jan 2005) and is the long-wheelbase (LWB) version meaning it’s a lot more spacious than the standard T5. She is fitted with a kitchen and separate lounge area for a fully functional space, complete with a full-sized bed, solar electrics, and running water.
We recently purchased another van to convert and cannot justify owning two campers (we tried) which is the only reason for the sale – we will be very sad to see her go!
Conversion-wise, the van is fitted with:
• 100W Renogy solar panel
• Renogy MPPT solar charge controller
• 100AH leisure battery
• 6x LED ceiling lights
• 2x USB chargers
• Sink and tap with running water
• 12V plug for fridge/coolbox (also included with sale – see more kit included below.)
• Fiamma roof fan
• Solid oak kitchen worktop
• Lounge area with height adjustable table by day, and
• 6ft kingsize bed by night
• Roof bar and crossbars (perfect for your surfboard)
• Wind deflectors on front windows
• Fully insulated and sound-proofed throughout
Mechanically:
• Very low 78,000 miles
• MOT’d until November 2022 (with no advisories)
• Service history
• New front tyres fitted in November
• New clutch and flywheel fitted September
• Timing belt also changed
• Never let us down and never had a problem with her
As we built things to size, the van will also come with as much camping/T5 equipment as the new owner(s) would like, including:
• Portable camping stove
• 16L coolbox fridge
• 2x water jerry cans (10L for freshwater and 10L for greywater)
• Storage boxes and trays for cupboards and compartments
• Thermal blackout window covers for the front cab
• Steering wheel security lock
• Volkswagen CD/radio head unit we never got round to fitting
The compromises:
• One key
• A few spots of surface rust as to be expected for the age
• The driver’s side speaker doesn’t work (probably an easy fix but it’s never bothered us)
• Category S (she just had a door changed before we bought her)
• The roof fan lid sometimes needs manually closing
• Small crack in the plastic bumper
