Volkswagen Transporter T6 SWB 140bhp 6 speed manual ‘Swamper’ style. The time has come to part with our lovely T6 camper due to requiring a bigger van. It’s been a fantastic camper and has taken us on many adventures in our ownership. It’s in great cosmetic and mechanical condition and has been very well looked after throughout it’s life. It’s an ex-RAC van so it’s had regular servicing and maintenance before our ownership and I have personally spent a lot of time and money on a mechanical/service work to ensure it’s good for another 150 odd thousand miles.
Because it’s an ex-RAC van it is well specced with the higher horsepower 140bhp motor, 6 speed manual gearbox, air-conditioning, multifunction steering wheel, electric folding mirrors and factory auxiliary electrics system, Bluetooth connectivity/ dab radio.
A list of mechanical work completed in our ownership (since May 2024)
Timing belt and water pump replacement.
Auxiliary drive belt.
Oil and filter.
Air filter.
Brake fluid replaced.
Alternator reconditioned.
New glow plugs.
New front shock absorbers.
New shock top mounts and bearings.
Front anti roll bar drop links.
Front ball joints.
The van drives perfectly with no faults, knocks or clunks. It starts instantly from cold with no warning lights, pulls very well and returns 40mpg on a motorway run. There is absolutely no rust whatsoever on the van, which is very rare on a Transporter! The bodywork is good with a few scratches and stone chips as expected. There is a small chip on the windscreen but this was present before I bought it. The mileage is currently at 156,917 but will rise slightly as it’s still in use. This is a better T6 than many I’ve seen with half the mileage so please don’t let the number put you off. Viewing is highly recommended.
The MOT is due in May 2026
The camper conversion consists of:
A fully insulated with ply/carpet panelled interior.
Suede trimmed headlining with led lights.
Altro hard wearing anti-slip flooring.
Two opening side windows and rear tailgate window.
Vanshades rear window blind and side window curtains.
Piggl hexa ply bike bed system with huge integrated drawers (very versatile and can be removed from van in 10mins to free up space)
The bed is designed for carrying up to 3 mountain bikes when in upright position then folds down into a double bed.
Hexa Ply storage locker next to bed with storage shelf above.
Swivel double passenger seat which lifts up with storage underneath.
Leisure battery relocated under drivers seat with 12v USB charger in seat base.
Newly fitted Lavaner Pro 2kw diesel heater mounted under van and plumbed into van fuel tank.
Fully adjustable dining table which mounts to storage locker.
Touch operated reading light.
A clip on awning and cab window thermal blind set will be included in the sale.
Rogue CC1 alloy wheels with General AT3 all terrain tyres.
The interior has been designed to be simple, cosy but feel spacious. It’s a very practical camper and works great for up to two people. We do a lot of mountain biking and hiking so it has been designed with this in mind, the van interior needs to be hard wearing and easy to clean so it meets the brief perfectly.
There is a shelf that fits in the rear drawer that you can sit a Cadac grill on for cooking. We have used the space behind the front seats for a porta potty and cool box so you can have everything you actually need without having a cramped, overcomplicated space like you see in many Transporter campers. A kitchen pod could easily be added if you wished to have running water and built in cooking facilities, this is something we never felt we needed.
Please note, The toilet, cool box and grill are not included with the van.
