Vehicle Description

Hi, we are reluctantly selling our 1979 Devon camper ‘Bryan’.
We have owned Bryan for the past 10 years and in 2012, it went through a complete bare metal restoration with a nationally recognised and respected Air-cooled VW restoration company in Bristol (The Old Dub Shop) (I have all the photos of the resto).

Inside it has bespoke handcrafted oak units and table top with a rear wardrobe. The original front seats have been refilled and recovered in a cream leatherette, and new foam filled rear cushions that make up the rear seat and bed in the same material. It has all new door cards also recovered in cream. There is a 3 point seatbelt and a lap belt fitted on the back seats.
It sleeps 4/5 with 2 children in the original bunks in the new pop top, this has air vents and windows to let in light and air when you are camping. There is also the original rock&roll bed for adults, this is an original feature but has had its seats replaced and recovered as previously mentioned. There is also a cab hammock/bunk for additional sleeping, that fits in across the two front seats.
It has a 2 burner SMEV stove and a cupboard that will fit a camping fridge if one is required. Plenty of overhead and sideboard storage.

The vehicle itself is a UK RHD 1600 petrol, which runs perfectly and its last MOT expired on the 11th June 2019 and its last major service was carried out in 2018 (details of work done listed on the invoice) and it was SORN from 2019 – 2022. It is now MOT and Tax Exempt.
All the panels are original except both cab doors were replaced as part of the resto and a small amount of welding was carried out on the front window sill and drivers side step. The van has also been waxoyl’d.
The mileage is currently 134,782 which is very low for a van that is over 43 years old and its only done 4.5k miles in the last 10 years!
It has a professionally fitted fire extinguisher system into the engine bay which will go off if any extreme heat is detected from the engine. The engine is 100% original and has only every had anything replaced as part of a service.
We had the rear brakes completely rebuilt in 2018 along with a few other bits that were picked up on the MOT but for its age, it is in very good condition. It also has electric hook up and leisure battery electrics professionally installed (Leisure Battery not included). Brand new battery and a brand new SIGMA alarm and immobiliser fitted this year (2 fobs and all codes available)
We have a substantial back catalogue of history and MOT certificates as well as most receipts for services/repairs/purchases etc.
It also has a 12v Avtex TV/DVD player that is attached on the back of the buddy seat that is always handy when travelling with children to keep them entertained. It also has a CD/Bluetooth compatible head unit, with speakers and amp.
Bryan also boasts an overhead luggage rack and cargo net. This isn’t original but we added it as part of its restoration.
We get a lot of comments whenever we are out in the van and its always a talking point when we pull up on a campsite. As you can see from the photos it is a wonderful example of the T2 and had a very loving restoration, unfortunately our children have outgrown the bunks now and we are starting to use it less and less. It has also been used for Weddings and proms and always looks good in a photo.
This isn’t a show standard example but it’s not a million miles away. It’s a straight, honest, structurally sound lovely example of a 1979 Bay Window Camper that has been really well restored and maintained both by us and its previous owner who drove it all across Europe and North Africa without a single issue! We were never that adventurous 😊 Although it has always been stored in our garage, there are signs of minor surface paint bubbling in some small places but no obvious rot or rust (we are no experts). It starts first time, runs like a dream and has never once let us down.
We don’t want to sell it, nor do we have to sell it but seeing Bryan in the garage not being used for what it was designed and built for just doesn’t feel right and we would love for him to find new owners who will enjoy him half has much has we have, therefore we will only sell to whom we feel is the right person/people and will 100% only sell to somebody who has inspected the vehicle at least once.
