So the van itself is a super nippy, fuel efficient (London to Bristol for Β£10 at 60mph! well looked after caddy, that Iβve had for a year and a half. Itβs been so trustworthy, and has taken me to many a festivals – recently I had the clutch kit (master and slave cylinder) replaced as it was getting sticky (common on plus 100k vans) – the starter battery replaced, glow plugs in the engine replaced and the tyres, which is great for you – as these are things which commonly need doing around 100k miles.. so you have peace of mind to its now good for another 100k!
My mechanic told me the engine will easily last another 150k, and is in great condition, as he said German engines last forever.
There is absolutely no rust, which is amazing – the van only did inland (no abrasive salt) motorway miles most of its life (hence the stripes) until the previous owner (a delivery firm) who didnβt use it and sold it to me – whoβs also donβt mainly long distance miles to and from festivals π
So yeh mechanically great, here is more detail:

Selling my 2016 VW Caddy Maxi LWB (Euro 6, ULEZ compliant) with a professional, eco-material micro camper base conversion.
Iβve spent the time and money to get the van perfectly ready for either of 2 uses
– next owner to use as I did, with cheap camping kit (fold out table/ chairs and minimalist camping set up, with an awning or rear drive away awning). This is ideal for someone who wants a daily or regular work van with maximal usable space, and a campervan for weekends!
– next owner could buy a pre-made ply/mdf kitchen unit and slide out bed unit – all easy to buy as Ikea style, assemble at home units for about Β£500-700 on eBay, B&Q or the Range even for them now, or pre assembled and fit professionally for a little more.
** so, the van is fully insulated to a professional standard (including all structural elements) to eliminate cold bridges, and is fully sealed with a vapour membrane, to eliminate moisture build up in the insulation. I am a professional architect and sustainable builder – Iβve cut zero corners on this van (see photographic evidence!)
Built with with reclaimed timber and natural materials for a warm, characterful finish, with stealth / minimalist camping in mind. Itβs a versatile open-plan design that can be used as a weekender camper, day van, or practical festival (or building) work van (as I did for a year before I converted it when I just had the floor simulated and boarded).
Itβs super warm, ventilated with the skylight, and you can be fully confident that behind the natural cozy materials is a very well converted base van, that itself is in great mechanical condition – with a new clutch, tyres and battery (all risky items in a used van) – so really is ready for whatever additional finishing touches youβd like to add.
Before I converted it, I had just insulated and timbered the floor – and lived in it all summer while working festivals. Now it can be used as a work van or hauler by day, camper by weekend.
I had a minimal camping setup including a portable toilet, portable cooking kit and boxes for clothes etc – all fit nicely at the end of the bed.
However, itβs ready for further conversion if you wish – behind each visible timber strip is a structural timber bolted to the metal – so you can add shelves or cupboards if youβd like! Iβve made it so itβs easy to actually know where you can hang shelves / clothes etc.
Just professionally valeted inside and out (including full wax) β looks and feels great. Comes with an unused AA breakdown kit for peace of mind on the road.
