Volkswagen Crafter CR35 TDI LWB High Roof
Vinny is our 2015 Volkswagen Crafter CR35 TDI LWB High Roof campervan. It is a 2.0 litre (1968cc) diesel with a 6-speed manual gearbox and 48,547 miles on the clock (September 2026).

We bought the van through Quirky Campers in February 2024. It had already been professionally converted by Live Slow Campers and was sold as a high-spec off-grid camper. Since then we have continued to use, maintain, and improve it, with the aim of making it more stable, more capable off-grid, and easier to live with on longer trips.
The base van is a long wheelbase, high roof Crafter with two belted seats, right-hand drive, cruise control, central locking, twin reversing cameras, media/Bluetooth, tow bar, cab blinds, privacy separation between cab and living area, and two sets of keys.
The current mileage is low and the van has a full service history: it came to us with the cambelt and water pump already replaced (June 2023 service at 31,743 miles), and it has been serviced regularly since. MOT until 25 August 2027 (passed 31 July 2026 with a clean smoke test; the certificate also shows a consistent year-on-year mileage history). The whole LPG system (hob, oven, Propex heater and pipework) was inspected and tested by a Gas Safe registered engineer on 6 September 2026 with no faults found, and the gas safety record comes with the van.
In our ownership Vinny has done two month-long European tours, France and Spain in 2025, then Spain and Portugal in 2026, and has never had a breakdown. We’re selling because we aren’t using Vinny enough; he deserves more time on the road than we can give him.
The van is now uprated to 4,050kg MAM/GVW, and a September 2026 weighbridge visit put it at 3,650kg as it stands, so there is around 400kg of payload in hand. This is a real strength for payload and stability, but buyers should check their own driving licence entitlement and insurance position. GOV.UK states that post-1 January 1997 Category B licences cover petrol and diesel vehicles up to 3,500kg MAM, while Category C1 covers vehicles between 3,500kg and 7,500kg MAM.
Known issue: there is a rust spot on the outside cover for the toilet reservoir. Otherwise, everything is currently fully working to the best of our knowledge.
The original conversion was carried out by Live Slow Campers in Thirsk, Yorkshire (https://liveslowcampers.com/). It is a warm, practical two-berth layout designed around off-grid travel, a fixed double bed, a proper galley, and an internal bathroom.
Original conversion features: fixed UK double bed with Simba memory foam mattress (135cm x 190cm), internal shower with Thetford flushing cassette toilet, custom kitchen with Belfast-style sink and copper tap, Thetford Duplex oven and two gas hobs, Inlander Swan fridge and freezer, 70 litre fresh water tank with purification system and three-phase water filters, 50 litre waste water tank, 22 litre Surejust calorifier 3-way hot water system (engine heat exchange plus 12V and 240V immersion), external hot-water shower point / dog wash, 25 litre underslung Gasit LPG tank, Propex gas air heater with thermostat, Thule 6300 awning, Dometic Heki rooflight with blackout shade and mosquito net, Maxx Air fan with remote, LED lighting throughout, ignition-activated kitchen drawer magnets, 12V/240V/USB electrics, Roamer 230Ah lithium leisure battery with Victron charging, 240V hook-up, audio system, thermal cab blinds, privacy curtains, integral dog kennel with sliding door (usable as extra storage), dining table with flexible seating, and extra storage throughout.
Since purchase in February 2024, we have added:
– Rear axle air suspension for improved stability.
– Uprated maximum weight to 4,050kg MAM (SvTech converter’s plate and certificate, June 2024).
– Custom-fabricated roof deck (June 2024): composite decking, deckchair-style backrest, two walk-on solar panels, and two hatch covers over the skylights (the front hatch opens on linear actuator).
– Rear access ladder, custom-fabricated with the deck.
– Rear-mounted bike rack.
– AUTOTERM Air 4D 4kW diesel heater with Comfort controller, alongside the existing gas heater; heater unit new in December 2024.

– External gas socket for plugging in a BBQ.
– Upgraded inverter: Edecoa pure sine wave, 2500W continuous / 5000W peak (August 2024).
The result is a compact but serious touring setup: comfortable for two, practical for longer trips, and set up for campsites or off-grid stays.
