I would like to introduce ‘HUGZ’ our trusty campervan for the last year.
It started life out as a blank van which we converted during lock down. The aim was to travel the country in time off, but all we have really managed is local beach missions. Considering we live on the coast we have decided it isn’t really worth having such a nice van for such short trips.
Work we have performed: The shell is first sound proofed with 10mm foam, insulated with 40mm recycled plastic insulation and then silver self adhesive insulation wrap. The majority of the van is birch ply lined with the bed frame made from treated Pine. The shell has been routered from 6mm Birch ply then wax oil treated. The floor is lined with Altro for maximum strength and hard wearing. As you can see there is lots of storage underbed, lockers, shelfs and under seat. We are a family of 3 with surfboards and its more than enough.
There is a twin gas cooker that sits within a kitchen pod parallel to the sliding door to maximise space. Three LED lights along the inside roof. A Fiamma roof vent was fitted and installed by a professional.
The double bed is fixed with memory foam mattress over wooden slats. Super comfy.
Over the last 6 thousand miles we have taken the upmost care mechanically with it. This includes:
Service (with another new engine oil replacement recently)
EGR valve, vacuum replacement
Front brake rebuilds, New front discs and pads (500 miles old)
New steering rack Bushing
New/nearly new tyres all round
506 corrosion protection underseal
